The company that runs The Mulberry on Station Hill is entering creditors' voluntary liquidation. Its creditors meet on 14 October, and CAMRA lists the pub as temporarily closed.
The company that runs The Mulberry, the pub on Station Hill between Farnham station and the town centre, is going into creditors’ voluntary liquidation.
A notice in The London Gazette, published on 2 October, calls a virtual meeting of the company’s creditors for 10am on Wednesday 14 October. The company is Q Bars & Restaurants Limited. The notice gives its trading name as The Mulberry and its principal trading address as Station Hill, Farnham, GU9 8AD.
A creditors’ voluntary liquidation is the route a company’s own board takes when it cannot pay its debts. It is not a court order. The meeting is held under section 100 of the Insolvency Act 1986, which is where creditors confirm or choose the liquidator. The notice was given “by order of the board” on 1 October.
What the record shows
The Gazette notice names two proposed joint liquidators: Jasmine Baxter and Rikki Burton of Anderson Brookes Insolvency Practitioners, based in Chorley, Lancashire.
The company’s Companies House record fills in the background:
- It was set up on 18 January 2010, and its business is listed as public houses and bars.
- It came close to being struck off this spring. Companies House published a first notice for compulsory strike-off on 28 April 2026. The action was discontinued the next day, 29 April.
- Its last accounts, for the year to 28 February 2025, showed net liabilities of £48,585. It owed £123,555 to creditors due within a year, against £23,771 in the bank. A year earlier the shortfall was £49,433.
- Those accounts said the directors expected the business to keep trading for the foreseeable future. They were signed off on 25 November 2025.
- Its accounts for the year to 28 February 2026 are due by 30 November 2026.
The company’s registered office is in Bishops Waltham, Hampshire.
Is the pub open?
We cannot confirm that it is. The local CAMRA branch’s listing for The Mulberry says “This pub is temporarily closed”, with the note “Closed throughout September 2026 for essential electrical works”. The pub’s own website, mulberryfarnham.co.uk, was showing a parked holding page with no content when we checked on 13 October.
The Gazette notice says nothing about the building’s future, and liquidating the company that runs a pub does not on its own decide what happens to the premises. The record does not show who owns the building.
A listed building
The Mulberry is a Grade II listed building, first listed on 20 June 1968. The listing describes a mid-19th century red brick building with a stucco ground floor. Its iron veranda carries a balcony above it. It was formerly listed as The Blue Boy Railway Hotel, a reminder of how long it has served people coming off the trains.
Listing protects the building, not its use as a pub. Any change of use would need planning permission, which would show on Waverley’s planning register and on our Farnham planning news page.
What it means for you
- If the company owes you money, as a supplier, landlord or customer with a deposit for a booking, the Gazette notice says creditors must lodge a proof of debt by 4pm on the business day before the meeting to vote. That deadline is 4pm today, 13 October. Claims can still be made to the liquidators afterwards. The contact named in the notice is Anderson Brookes on 01204 255051.
- If you worked there and are owed wages, holiday pay or redundancy pay, the government’s Redundancy Payments Service covers some of what an insolvent employer owes, up to legal limits.
- If you had an event booked, contact Anderson Brookes rather than the pub. Once appointed, the liquidators deal with the company’s commitments.
If The Mulberry reopens under the same or a new operator, we will report it.
