Pumpkin picking at Secretts of Milford from 17 October, £8.50 entry. The free Lantern Festival is 29 October, and the museum's Halloween day is the 31st.

Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, and Farnham’s biggest draw is a pumpkin field at Milford, near Godalming: Secretts of Milford opens its pick-your-own patch and Halloween trail on Saturday 17 October. In town, the free Lantern Festival fills Gostrey Meadow on Thursday 29 October, and the Museum of Farnham runs a costumed Halloween day on the 31st. Every detail below is from the organiser’s own page, checked on 3 October 2026.

The quick answer

  • Pumpkin picking: Secretts of Milford, Chapel Lane, GU8 5HU, open 17, 18 and 21 to 30 October. Entry is £8.50 for anyone over two, booked online; pumpkins are extra, from £3. It is closed on 31 October.
  • Free: the Farnham Lantern Festival, Thursday 29 October, Gostrey Meadow from 5pm, procession at 6.30pm.
  • On Halloween itself: Halloween at the Museum, Saturday 31 October, 10.30am or 1.30pm, £6 a child, adults free.
  • Half term is 19 to 30 October for Surrey’s council-run schools and 26 to 30 October for Weydon, Heath End, All Hallows and Rodborough. The full week is on our October half term page.

Pumpkin picking, Secretts of Milford

Secretts is the nearest big pick-your-own pumpkin patch to Farnham: Hurst Farm, Chapel Lane, Milford, GU8 5HU, just off the A3 south of Godalming. Drive in by the Chapel Lane farm shop entrance, not through Squire’s Garden Centre, and follow the event parking signs. Parking is free.

Date (October 2026) Open
Sat 17 and Sun 18 9am to 4.30pm
Wed 21, Thu 22, Fri 23 11am to 3pm
Sat 24 and Sun 25 9am to 4.30pm
Mon 26 to Fri 30 10am to 4pm

It is not open on Monday 19 or Tuesday 20 October, nor on Halloween itself. The last entry slot each day is three hours before closing.

Entry is £8.50 for anyone over two, including VAT and booking fees; under 2s are free and need no ticket. You book a 15-minute arrival slot and can then stay as long as you like. Tickets are non-refundable, but you can move the date through the “manage booking” link in your confirmation email. Secretts says most days sell out and that it has turned people away at the gate at other events this year, so book ahead.

Entry covers the Halloween trail, a scavenger hunt on the 15 to 20 minute walk to the field, and the fancy dress competition. On top of that you pay for:

  • Pumpkins, priced by size on the farm’s measuring bench, from £3, card or cash in the field.
  • Biscuit decorating, the magic show, the haunted house (suggested for 7 and over) and the mini pedal tractors, £3 a person each.
  • Glitter tattoos, crafts, waffles and coffee, priced on the day.

The farm kitchen serves pumpkin curry, pumpkin soup and barbecue sausages from 11am, and asks you not to bring a picnic (baby food and medical needs are exempt). No dogs. The path is mostly paved and fine for buggies, but there are muddy stretches and the pumpkin field itself is grass, so wear wellies. Toilets are by the pick-your-own enclosure, not in the field. Bring a strong bag: there are wheelbarrows, but not always enough.

Farnham Lantern Festival, Thursday 29 October

Farnham’s third Lantern Festival closes Craft Month, and the town council ties it to Samhain, the Celtic festival marking the end of harvest, which is where Halloween comes from. It starts at 5pm on Gostrey Meadow, Union Road, GU9 7PT, with live music and people showing their lanterns. At 6.30pm the procession carries the lanterns through the town centre to St Andrew’s Church, where they go on display together. It finishes at 7.30pm. Entry is free (Farnham Town Council).

Schools, community and faith groups, care homes, pubs, clubs and groups of friends are all invited to take part. The council says lantern kits will be on sale from its South Street office “later in the year”; as of 3 October it has not published a price or a date, and the page was last updated on 14 July.

It is dark by the time the procession leaves, so park in the town centre rather than walking back to a far car park: tariffs for every Waverley car park are on our Farnham parking page. The town centre works are still running, so check our Farnham roadworks page too. No road closure for the procession has been published.

Halloween day, Saturday 31 October

Halloween at the Museum, Museum of Farnham, 38 West Street, GU9 7DX. Two two-hour slots, 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm, for ages 3 and over, in costume. Children make a “demon animal” familiar, mix a slime potion at the museum’s apothecary, hear stories from the resident witch and hunt for shadow animals around the building. £6 a child, adults go free, booked through the Maltings box office on 01252 745444 (Farnham Maltings).

Around Waverley and Alice Holt

  • Horrific Halloween, Haslemere Museum, Tuesday 27 October, 1.30pm to 4pm. A family event at 78 High Street, GU27 2LA. The museum lists the time but no price or booking link yet (Haslemere Museum what’s on).
  • Potion Hunt at Go Ape Alice Holt, 24 October to 1 November. Go Ape’s new Halloween add-on: book Treetop Adventure, Treetop Adventure Plus or the Nets Adventure as normal and add the clue trail for £5 a person at checkout. Go Ape’s Sundown Adventures (high ropes at sunset, ages 6+, minimum height 1.2m) are also back at Alice Holt this autumn (Go Ape Alice Holt). Alice Holt is in East Hampshire, though it has a Farnham postcode.
  • Scarecrow Trail, Rural Life Living Museum, Tilford, 26 to 30 October. Not Halloween as such, but the same week: families’ scarecrows on the theme “Once Upon a Time” (Rural Life Living Museum).

What is not happening

  • Birdworld has no Halloween event this year. Its October half term programme, 24 October to 1 November, is the “Awesome Autumn” science show with Professor Featherstone, included with entry (Birdworld). Older newspaper pieces about Birdworld Halloween trails describe earlier years.
  • No town-centre trick-or-treat trail has been announced by Farnham Town Council or the town’s businesses as of 3 October. We will add one if it appears.

Bonfire Night follows a week later: see Farnham fireworks 2026 for the Round Table display in Farnham Park on Saturday 7 November.
