Festival of Crafts at the Maltings on 10 and 11 October, the free Lantern Festival on the 29th and the fireworks on 7 November, with times and prices.

October is Craft Month in Farnham, and the biggest weekend of it is the Festival of Crafts at Farnham Maltings on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October. The month ends with the free Lantern Festival in Gostrey Meadow on Thursday 29 October. Then come the fireworks in Farnham Park on Saturday 7 November and the Remembrance parade the morning after.

  • Exhibition on Screen: James McNeill Whistler, Tuesday 29 September, 2.30pm (subtitled) and 7.30pm, Great Hall, Farnham Maltings. £16, under 18s £13. A 90 minute film of Tate Britain’s Whistler retrospective (Farnham Maltings).
  • Handmade in Farnham, opens Wednesday 30 September, 10am, Museum of Farnham, 38 West Street, GU9 7DX. Free, with a £3 suggested donation. The museum’s new exhibition of craft made in and around the town, open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm, until 27 March 2027 (Museum of Farnham).
  • Lady Maisery, Thursday 1 October, 8pm, Great Hall, Farnham Maltings. £21. The folk trio preview new songs before they go into the studio (Farnham Maltings).
  • Jimmy Nail: Stories and Songs, Friday 2 October, 7.30pm, Great Hall, Farnham Maltings. Standard tickets were £38.50. Sold out, with a waiting list for returns (Farnham Maltings).
  • Farnham RUFC v Maidenhead, Saturday 3 October, Farnham Rugby Club, Wilkinson Way, Monkton Lane, GU9 9FA. First XV home league match. The club lists the kick-off as to be confirmed, so check before you travel (Farnham RUFC).
  • Kids’ Symphonic Sundays, Sunday 4 October, 10am, Barley Room, Farnham Maltings. £9. A 50 minute family concert introducing the instruments of the orchestra, for ages one to 11. The next is on Sunday 8 November (Farnham Maltings).
  • Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and the Really Big Adventure, Sunday 4 October, 11.30am and 2.30pm, Great Hall, Farnham Maltings. Adults £16, children £13, a group of four £49. A 60 minute family show, recommended for ages three to 10 (Farnham Maltings).

The Maltings Monthly Market, Alice Holt parkrun and the monthly town walk also fall this weekend. They are under regular events.

Festival of Crafts, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October

The Festival of Crafts is 30 this year. It runs from 10am to 4pm on both days and takes over the whole of Farnham Maltings, Bridge Square, GU9 7QR. An adult ticket is £6 in advance, including the £1 booking fee, or £10 on the door. Under 18s go free. The £5 ticket for 18 to 25 year olds is sold in advance only (Farnham Maltings).

The Maltings lists free demonstrations across the weekend, among them wood carving and pyrography, sign writing, rope and cord making, calligraphy and gold leaf gilding, goldwork embroidery and the Big Draw. Bookable workshops run alongside them, and each has its own page and price in the Maltings’ what’s on list.

The weekend sits inside Farnham Craft Month, which runs from 1 to 31 October with open studios, exhibitions, talks and workshops around the town and villages. Farnham Lantern Festival, Thursday 29 October

This is the third Lantern Festival, and it closes Craft Month. It starts at 5pm in Gostrey Meadow, Union Road, GU9 7PT, where people show their lanterns and there is live music. At 6.30pm the procession sets off through the town centre to St Andrew’s Church, where the lanterns go on display together. Entry is free (Farnham Town Council).

The organisers want community groups, schools, care homes, pubs, clubs and groups of friends to take part. The council says lantern kits will be sold from its South Street office, and it has not yet published the price or the date they go on sale.

  • Farnham Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service, Sunday 8 November. The parade forms in Castle Street from 10am and marches to the war memorial for a service, with the two-minute silence at 11am. Farnham Fireworks, Saturday 7 November

Farnham Round Table’s display is in Farnham Park. The park opens at 5pm and the band plays from 5.30pm. The torchlit procession leaves Waggon Yard car park at 6pm and goes up Castle Street. The bonfire is lit after the guys are judged at 7.15pm, and the fireworks are at about 7.45pm (Farnham Fireworks).

Tickets are sold online only, and there are none on the gate. Torches for the procession are an add-on to a ticket, and numbers are limited. You must be over 18 to carry one. Torch holders need to be at Waggon Yard before 5.45pm. Food and drink stalls serve from 5pm to 9pm. Our Farnham fireworks page has the parking and road closure advice.

  • Maltings Monthly Market, first Saturday of the month, 9am to 4pm, Farnham Maltings. £1 on the door, members and under 15s free. The next three are on 3 October, 7 November and 5 December (Farnham Maltings).
  • Alice Holt parkrun, every Saturday, 9am, Alice Holt Forest, Bucks Horn Oak, GU10 4LS. Free. A timed 5km that you can walk, jog or run. The forest is just over the county boundary in Hampshire (parkrun).
  • Town Walk in Historic Farnham, first Sunday of the month, from Waggon Yard Car Park, Lower Church Lane, GU9 7PS. £5 a head, with profits going to local charities. The walk lasts about an hour and a half. The listing gives no start time, so ask the guides before you set out. The next two are on 4 October and 1 November (Farnham Town Council).
  • Farnham Farmers’ Market, fourth Sunday of the month, 10am to 1.30pm, Central Car Park, off Victoria Road, GU9 7RD. Free entry. Around 35 producers, all from within 50 miles. The next is on Sunday 25 October, then 22 November (Farnham Town Council).
  • Maltings Lunchtime Jazz, normally the last Thursday of the month, 1pm to 2pm, Barley Room, Farnham Maltings. £10, pay on the door. The next is on Thursday 29 October (Farnham Maltings).

Farnham Maltings, the Museum of Farnham, Gostrey Meadow and Castle Street are all within a short walk of each other.
