Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026. Farnham Town Council has not yet published this year’s timings, but the pattern is long settled: the parade forms in Castle Street, marches to the war memorial in Gostrey Meadow for a service with the two-minute silence at 11am, then marches past the Town Hall on South Street, where the salute is taken. Last year the parade assembled from 10am and set off at 10.25am.

What happens, and where

Farnham Town Council organises the parade and service with the Royal British Legion’s Farnham branch. Its standing Remembrance page, updated on 19 August 2026, describes the day: the parade assembles in Castle Street, goes to the war memorial at Gostrey Meadow, and the service includes the two-minute silence at 11am, the Last Post, readings and the laying of wreaths. Then the armed forces, uniformed services, youth groups and dignitaries march past, and the salute is taken outside the Town Hall on South Street (Farnham Town Council: Farnham Remembrance events).

The council’s page also notes that the world’s first two-minute silence is believed to have been held in Castle Street, on 10 May 1916.

The closures covered Castle Street, parts of The Borough, South Street, Victoria Road and Brightwells Road. Services in the villages

Farnham Town Council says acts of remembrance also take place in Badshot Lea, The Bourne, Hale, Rowledge, Weybourne and Wrecclesham, and last year a councillor laid a wreath at each memorial on behalf of the town. The times of these village services have not been published by the council; check with your parish church.

The schools’ service and the litter pick

  • Schools’ Remembrance Service. On the Friday before Remembrance Sunday, children from local schools gather at the Gostrey Meadow memorial with the Mayor. There is a two-minute silence at 11am, pupils read poems they have written and crosses are planted round the memorial. This year that Friday is 6 November, though the council has not confirmed it.
  • Bloomin’ Litter Pick. Last year volunteers met at the Town Hall on the Saturday before, from 10am to noon, to tidy the town for the parade, with cake afterwards (Farnham Town Council, 28 October 2025).

Armistice Day itself, 11 November, falls on a Wednesday this year.
